An investigation is underway by the Toronto police Hate Crime Unit after employees of an East York hospital found two nooses outside the building in a construction site.
A call was made to Toronto police who responded to Crawford Avenue close to Danforth Avenue, reports City News.
The discovery was made by employees at Michael Garron Hospital on June 10 during their commute to work.
The company working at the construction site said the nooses appeared to be strategically placed as part of a racially motivated act.
Many officers have been working on the case and police say staff at the hospital have been helpful.
On Tuesday, the investigation was transferred to the Hate Crime Unit.
“I am appalled and outraged at the hateful and racist actions that took place at one of our construction sites. This will not be tolerated, not now, not ever,” noted EllisDon CEO Geoff Smith in a June 12 statement.
“We will work with Toronto Police Services, with every resource we can muster, to identify the guilty individual or individuals and ensure they are prosecuted to the fullest extent, and never allowed to participate in our industry again.”
