Ontario police vet of 28 years dead after being shot during investigation

28-year veteran of the OPP Const. Marc Hovingh succumbed to his injuries sustained after a shooting in Gore Bay, Ontario yesterday.

28-year OPP veteran Const. Marc Hovingh succumbed to his injuries sustained after a shooting in Gore Bay, Ontario yesterday.

Two officers were shot and a suspect was wounded in a shooting at a trailer in the East Buff of Gore Bay on Manitoulin Island.

The injured parties were taken by air ambulance.

OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique confirmed Hovingh's passing yesterday.

"With great sadness I advise that PC Marc Hovingh, a 28-year veteran of the OPP, has succumbed to his injuries sustained while bravely serving in the line of duty," said Carrique on Twitter.

"Our hearts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this time."
