Bruno Iozzo, a 73-year-old Toronto man who spent 104 days in an ICU with a COVID-19 infection, is finally going home. CTV reports that Bruno will be released from his current institution.
Bruno was first admitted into Humber River Hospital in Toronto at the end of March due to an infection of COVID-19 in his lungs. Previously, Bruno was living a healthy life. Things changed when he wasn't receiving enough oxygen to his blood, his kidneys began to fail and he was put on dialysis.
Mr. Iozzo was then treated for three months in the ICU, where they intubated him and put him on a ventilator.
The good news is that during the second week of July, Iozzo turned a major corner. His condition improved to a point that he could be discharged from Humber River Hospital.
He was then transferred to Runnymede Healthcare Centre to recover and get a little stronger before making the final leap home.
Iozzo gradually regained his ability to stand for longer periods of time, get out of bed by himself and keep his energy levels up.
He is now able to walk independently with support from a walker or cane. His daughter, Gisella told CTV that "she’s overjoyed by his remarkable progress."
This is a testament to the skill of the great doctors and nurses in our province. Congratulations on your recovery Bruno, we wish you all the best.
