ACLU DEFENDS racial discrimination in college admissions

"You're defending universities that systemically discriminate against poor immigrant Asian applicants," said psychology professor Geoffrey Miller in a comment.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) was met with sharp criticism on Tuesday when it announced they would be advocating for racial discrimination in college admissions.

"BREAKING: We filed an amicus brief today urging the Supreme Court to protect universities’ ability to consider race in college admissions," read the announcement from the ACLU’s official Twitter account.

"Students for Fair Admissions is suing Harvard and the University of North Carolina to prevent race from being a factor in the admissions process," continued the ACLU.

According to the Students for Fair Admissions website, they are a nonprofit membership group of more than 20,000 students, parents, and other concerned citizens who believe that racial preferences in college admissions are unfair, unnecessary, and unconstitutional. The ACLU has decided to support Harvard and the University of North Carolina to protect racial discrimination in college admission.

Commenters pointed out the hypocrisy of the ACLU’s decision to advocate for Affirmative Action, a policy that allows colleges and universities to use race as a factor in admissions decisions instead of using merit alone. This practice disproportionately discriminates against Asian Americans due to their race and ethnicity, in favor of other races.

"You're defending universities that systemically discriminate against poor immigrant Asian applicants," said psychology professor Geoffrey Miller in a comment. "The @ACLU is betraying every value it used to hold dear, just to raise more money from rich @DNC supporters who want to virtue signal about today's fashionable cause," he added.

"All students deserve equitable access to higher education," the ACLU said in their final tweet. The principle of equity means discriminating against individuals based on their race in order to ensure equal group outcomes, as evolutionary biologist Colin Wright points out.

"The @ACLU is actively promoting racism. They no longer care about equal rights for all individuals, only the rights of certain groups. This is a very dark path to start down," he said.

Another commenter shared a list of corporations who they’ve identified as supporters of the ACLU’s decision to racially discriminate.

Helen Raleigh, an Asian American woman, hopes that racial preferences in college admissions will one day be eliminated. In an opinion piece for Newsweek, she penned, "The Democrats have not helped matters by openly endorsing a racial hierarchy system that values some races more than others, excluding our children from receiving a good education and punishing them for their hard work and success. This is not progress but the very definition of bigotry."
