Actor Laurence Fox announced his candidacy for mayor of London. Fox is running on the Reclaim Party ticket, a political movement that he launched in October, 2020. His proposal is to "offer a voice to those who are being dominated into silence."

In a campaign video posted to social media, Fox discusses the difficulties of the past year, particularly the suppression of freedoms. He appeals to people regardless of their political stripes, speaking of the current conditions as regards citizens' relinquishing of freedoms "in the name of the common good."

"I want to reclaim your freedom," he says, "I want to reclaim your freedom to work... your freedom to move, to be whoever you want to be with... your fundamental human need to be together... and to never take that freedom away again."

Fox speaks about the horror of saying goodbye to loved ones via video conference, the problems with a cancel culture that leave so many people afraid to speak, and in favour of western culture.

Sitting Mayor Sidiq Khan holds substantially opposing views to Fox, both on social justice and lockdowns. Khan was a proponent of removing London's statues of historical figures who don't not measure up to contemporary standards of anti-racism, and he is also in favour of continuing lockdowns while Fox is advocating for reopening as soon as he would take office. Khan has served since 2016.

Fox told the Daily Telegraph "I am standing for London mayor. With almost all older and vulnerable people having got their jab, I want the lockdown lifted straight away. The Government has said vaccines are working, hospitalisations and deaths are tumbling, but we are still being told we won’t be able to resume normal life until mid-summer at the earliest."

"Both the main parties are competing in this dreary race to be the last to set the country free," Fox said. "Both Tory and Labour have got this badly wrong. I want London – and indeed the rest of the country – to be allowed to get back to work and play immediately – not by late June." His campaign has received funding from a single donor, Jeremy Hosking, who is a former donor to the Tory party.

It was nearly a year ago that Fox made waves on UK television when he called out wokeness and the intolerance of the left. "The wokist is a fundamentally racist bunch," he said, and called a woman of colour racist herself for suggesting that his identity meant that he could not tell what racism is or isn't.
