A new documentary has been released that aims to expose the dangers of the transgender medical experiment and show the damage being done by an ideologically captured healthcare system, featuring stories from detransitioners who were ushered onto the sex change pathway and now regret the irreversible procedures they underwent, as well as input from experts who have been trying to sound the alarm about the harm of so-called “gender-affirming care.”

AFFIRMATION GENERATION takes an in-depth look at how society arrived at the place where young people with severe mental health issues are allowed to "consent" to having healthy body parts amputated, why so many of the major medical associations support these radical interventions, and how several countries are now putting the brakes on this reckless medical experiment while doctors in the U.S. just continue full steam ahead.

Detransitioners Michelle, Laura, Cat, David, Joel and Abel tell their stories of their gender distress, transgender medicalization, and subsequent detransition,” reads the documentary press release. “Without diagnostic clarity or mental health evaluations, they were affirmed on their first appointment and sent on a path of medical transition by their doctors. These young people were harmed irrevocably by the doctors they trusted.”

Easy access to hormones is a recurring theme in each of the detransitioner stories, and many tell of having complex mental health needs that were entirely overlooked by their healthcare providers. One detransitioned man, Joel, tells of how he received estrogen after just one appointment at Planned Parenthood in Chicago, under what is known as the “informed consent” model. This model views mental health assessments as being unnecessary barriers to care and instead simply requires a person to sign a consent form before embarking upon an experimental sex change.

Planned Parenthoods all over the US provide powerful cross-sex hormones to young people using this model, and activists in Ontario are pushing for the provincial healthcare system to adopt the same approach.

Throughout the film, experts debunk the common claims that puberty blockers are fully reversible and that “gender-affirming” care is life-saving, and two psychotherapists with vast experience treating youth suffering from gender-related issues explain the medical transition treadmill so many young people find themselves on, where it’s always the next medical intervention that is going to bring peace and comfort.

“It's almost like the gender dysphoria moves around,” explains Lisa Marchiano, a Jungian analyst and psychotherapist. “First it’s focused on the voice, and then they take testosterone and the voice deepens. But then it's like, well, then they have chest dysphoria, and they want to get rid of their breasts and then they have a mastectomy and it still doesn't work.”

Therapist Stephanie Winn calls the “gender-affirming” model of care a departure from the standard of care for any other condition because it requires that the therapists accept the patient’s self-diagnosis at face value and prevents therapists from treating the patient in the context of their whole lives. She believes clinicians have “been sold a bill of lies,” and states that many of her colleagues who are affirming these young people are doing so because they think they are helping.

“That's going to come crashing down at some point, and it's going to be really hard to reckon with what they've done. Same with the teachers, doctors and parents,” says Winn.

Dr. Lisa Littman, the researcher who first suggested the social contagion hypothesis in her 2018 paper, speaks about her study of detransitioners and the most common reasons young people gave for making the decision to go back to living as their natal sex, which included learning to accept their bodies and their homosexual orientation and realizing that their gender dysphoria was the result of trauma or mental health issues.

Joey Brite, a desisted lesbian woman, describes the impact the gender movement has had on the lesbian community on the west coast of the US.

“Our communities were disappearing. So they were literally transing the gay away,” says Brite, who even recalls once being approached by a man on the street offering testosterone to lesbians outside a lesbian bar in the 1990s.

The documentary explores how the major medical associations have been captured by activists and as a result have given their public support to a model of care that has an extremely weak evidence base, and pediatrician Dr. Julia Mason expresses her frustration at being ignored by the American Academy of Pediatrics when calling for a systematic review of the evidence for pediatric medical transition as has been done in Sweden, Finland, England and Florida.

The film also highlights the incoherency of the trans activist narrative that gender dysphoria is not a mental illness while at the same time those activists advocate for a treatment pathway as invasive and extreme as cancer treatment, and Dr. Michael Biggs uses suicide statistics to make a case against the transition-or-suicide myth activists are so fond of using in political debate.

The filmmakers describe themselves as being “lifelong, West Coast Liberal Democrats,” and according to journalist Lisa Selin Davis, it is up to those on the left to ask their politicians to walk this back, and to be honest about the complexity of the issue.

“I want Liberals to make room for gender diversity, and that includes masculine girls and feminine boys without telling them that they need to leave their sex category because they are different,” said Davis.

LGB activist & lifelong Liberal Democrat Brite, who features in the film and is the executive producer, told The Post Millennial she hopes Affirmation Generation will “leave the viewer with new insights into psychological and medical practices that most Americans don't even know are going on. Hopefully the viewer will also be moved to act on helping to stop more of the damage that's being done in all our names.”

Brite says the film was designed to help us get to a place where reasoning, facts and common sense can come together.

“The goal: to expose the dangers of the experimental drugs and surgeries being promoted and adopted by medical professionals and health clinicians in every aspect of American society,” said Brite.

The documentary is available to watch for free on Vimeo at the time of publishing, although there have already been attempts by trans activists to get it taken down.

This article has been edited to correct Joey Brite's title from associate producer to executive producer.
