A man is dead following a violent encounter with a law enforcement officer in Walker County, Alabama, Friday.

Officers responded to a domestic violence related 911 call Friday night, according to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office. The caller was a man who said he was having an altercation with his mentally ill son, according to a source with knowledge of the events, WBRC reports.

A video of the following confrontation between a black police officer and a white male surfaced online depicting the incident. The video shows the officer wrestling with the man in a corner of a room, then proceeding to threaten the suspect with his firearm.

"I'm going to shoot you," the officer says to the unarmed man, while reaching for his gun.

The man can be heard shouting in pain as the officer shoots him for not complying.

Walker County Sheriff Nick Smith gave a statement addressing the video in a post on the sheriff’s office Facebook page. In the statement, Smith says the video does not tell the full story and says that a full investigation will be conducted into the incident.

"I am confident that ALEA’s investigation will paint the full picture of what occurred last night and a grand jury made up of Walker County citizens will decide how to proceed from there," the statement reads.

So far, there has been no media uproar or activist mobilization over the incident as there has been for previous such incidents involving police shootings of unarmed individuals.
