A Connecticut judge has suspended the law license of Alex Jones' attorney for six months for allegedly releasing unauthorized Sandy Hook files, NBC CT reports.
The files released by Norm Pattis contained personal medical records of some of the families who lost their children during the Sandy Hook massacre in 2012.
"Simply put, given his experience, there is no acceptable excuse for his misconduct," Judge Barbara Bellis said in her ruling on Thursday.
"We cannot expect our system of justice or our attorneys to be perfect but we can expect fundamental fairness and decency. There was no fairness or decency in the treatment of the plaintiffs' most sensitive and personal information, and no excuse for the respondent's misconduct," she wrote.
She goes on to say that in agreement with the Disciplinary Counsel's recommendation, the court will suspend Pattis from practicing law for several months.
In a statement to NBC CN, Pattis, who is one of Connecticut's best-known defense attorneys, acknowledged the judge's decision, stating that he is currently in Washington, D.C. working on the Proud Boys insurrection case.
He confirmed to the network that he plans to appeal the decision.
"My lawyers will request a stay pending appeal tomorrow and I will notify the trial judge here in Washington," he said.
Alex Jones has been ordered to pay almost $1.5 billion to Sandy Hook families and other related expenses related to the defamation lawsuit against him after repeatedly declaring the massacre to be a hoax. Last month, it was reported that he had filed for bankruptcy.
