On Tuesday, Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced that a Portland Antifa member has pleaded guilty in relation to a May 2021 riot in downtown, and has been sentenced to 60 months of probation.

Jarrid Bailey Huber, 23, pleaded guilty to one count of Arson in the Second Degree, one count of Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, and one count of Riot. Despite the felony convictions, Huber was sentenced on April 26 to 60 months of probation and ordered to pay more than $20,000 in restitution to the organizations and businesses he damaged during the riot by Judge Benjamin Soude, according to the District Attorney’s office.

On May 25, 2021, a large group of over 100 people rioted in downtown Portland, damaging the Justice Center as well as businesses in the area.

Huber, according to the press release, "played a part in pushing a dumpster against the Justice Center and starting a fire in it, which blocked traffic and resulted in minor damage to the building."

Self-described journalist Huber proceeded to vandalize and damage businesses in the downtown area, including a Starbucks and a local jewelry store, and was ordered to pay the coffee chain $11,983 and Estate Jewelry Co. $8,622.

"My office issued nearly 200 protest-related cases between 2020 and 2022 for criminal prosecution, prioritizing arson, property damage, weapons offenses, theft, and person crimes," said DA Mike Schmidt.

"This case is a good example that, while it may take some time to complete the prosecutorial process, we will see these cases through and hold people accountable for destructive behavior. I’m grateful for the investigative work by Portland Police officers and detectives in this case, and for Judge Souede in issuing his sentence accordingly."

Huber was considered a wanted dangerous fugitive in early November, going on the run for weeks after allegedly violating his pretrial release conditions by returning to rioting. He was finally arrested on November 30 for charges stemming from the May 25, 2021 riot. He was released that day without bail.

Huber was arrested on November 9 for disorderly conduct in the second degree and interfering with a peace officer in relation to the night of Election Day.

The Antifa member was also revealed to be behind an account that in April 2021 posted a video in which a person threatened Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler, stating, "Ted, we are asking for the last time that you resign. If you ignore this message outright, the destruction to your precious way of life is going to escalate. Blood is already on your hands, Ted. And next time it may just be your own."
