New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez suggested Friday that the federal government fund the de-programming of white supremacists and conspiracy theorists.

"The White supremacist cause is futile, it’s nihilist," Ocasio-Cortez said during a virtual town hall meeting Friday night, reports the New York Post.

"Their world will never exist. That’s why we’re seeing violence right now," she explained, referencing the Capitol Hill riot on Jan. 6. "We have to pick up those pieces."

The Congresswoman says that the House subcommittee on civil rights she serves on has held hearings discussing certain methods and programs designed to "de-radicalize" white supremacists. She added that there were not sufficient funds to put those programs into action during the Trump administration, according to the New York Post.

"We need to double, triple or quadruple the funding for these programs," Ocasio-Cortez said.

"This is a problem that doesn’t go away on Jan. 20," she said referring to the inauguration.

Her dystopian suggestion follows the storming of the Capitol building by supporters of President Trump along with other political factions. Many Democrats and Republicans have placed blame for the civil unrest on President Trump and his rhetoric pertaining to alleged election fraud in the 2020 general election.
