Apple and Nordstorm were targeted in the latest string of robberies to hit California this week. The Holiday scene increases the public's scrutiny of the stability of the region.
Over in the southern part of the state a group of five men entered the Nordstrom store on Wednesday evening. One with an orange wing. Their loot was "seven or eight" high-end purses. As far as victims, a security guard had to be treated for chemical injuries after being hit with bear spray.
It follows a similar incident seen in Walnut Creek California towards the beginning of the week. This group earlier in the week used crowbars.
In a case of Santa Rosa, it was a gang of four that ran into an Apple Store and made out with $20,000 in merchandise.
"It's unfortunate because these people that are here are just trying to shop for the holidays [and] for their families," remarked LAPD Deputy Chief Alen Hamilton, says CBS.
In the case of Nordstrom, it was at the Westfield Topanga Mall, according to the Associated Press report.
In the case of Palo Alto earlier in the week, the police said it was a group of 30 to 40 people in a pack of 20 cars. They failed to break down the glass door and fled the area as police arrived. Two women were arrested, and found with $15,000 in other merchandise from an earlier robbery in their vehicle.
"We are talking about two incidents. We're not going to call this looting. This is organized robbery. That's what it is," said Sgt. Christian Camarillo of the San Jose police department at a press conference last Saturday.
The trend seems to be moving in the direction of mobbing stores in groups. Or in other unconventional means, like the mother and daughter who got robbed in front of their house in the middle of the afternoon over in Chicago.
The San Francisco attorney made it publicly clear that many have been charged in connections to these organized robberies. The perception game hasn’t worked in favor of the DAs since bail reform has become a hot button issue. However, even the media is trying to push back by touting "experts" who disavow the usage of the term looting to describe recent events.
According to Seth Rogen, people should get used to it.
