An arrest has been made following the beating of a 35-year-old mother from Rhode Island who was involved in a road rage incident while driving with her 8-year-old daughter, her friend, and a puppy.

The incident happened after the lady honked at the group of approximately 10 ATV and dirt bike riders when they did not move when the light turned green.

Fox News reports that at the next traffic stop, the group surrounded the woman's car, opened the driver's door, dragged out of her vehicle, and beat her.

The ordeal was caught on video, which Providence's WLNE-TV obtained. It appears to show the woman on her knees as she is beaten up by the gang.

Police have since arrested 24-year-old Shyanne Boisvert of North Providence, who now faces one count of simple assault and one count of disorderly conduct.

The Democrat run city of providence has seen a rise in crime, which has led to City Council President John Igliozzi to write a letter to RI Governor Dan McKee, asking him to send Rhode Island State Police troopers to help Providence Police.

"This wave of violent crime is unacceptable, and we need to act immediately to restore public safety and make our city’s residents once again feel safe walking and sitting outside in their own neighborhoods," Igliozzi wrote.

"Like the rest of Rhode Island, the capital city re-opened in recent months as the pandemic improved, and residents and visitors alike have resumed dining out, listening to live music, and patronizing our small businesses."

Igliozzi added, "unfortunately, our police department is stretched thin, with only 400 police officers, down from the approximately 500 officers we had during the period Providence successfully implemented community policing — one of the main drivers behind the decline in violent crime in the city during the 2000s."

The city's mayor, Jorge Elorza, has also condemned the attack, describing it as awful. He added "our police department has seized and destroyed over 200 bikes and we will continue to pull over and arrest people who are using these bikes illegally."

This is not the first time that Boisvert has had to deal with police. She was also one of three people arrested back in January for allegedly pushing, surrounding, and running over a police officer.

An investigation into the incident involving the mother is still ongoing.
