'Enough is enough': Bernier joins anti-mandate protestors in Montreal

"There is no convincing case for compulsory COVID-19 vaccinations," Bernier tweeted. "Mandatory policies are a blunt tool aimed at covering up government ineptitude."

People's Party of Canada leader Maxime Bernier met with supporters and other protestors in Montreal on Saturday in -14 degree weather to protest the province's new vaccination measures.

"There is no convincing case for compulsory COVID-19 vaccinations," Bernier tweeted. "Mandatory policies are a blunt tool aimed at covering up government ineptitude."

Footage from Montreal's Old Port shows hundreds arriving at what was billed as the "Quebec Pro Choice and Free Choice March," which called for the vaccinated and unvaccinated alike to protest in the name of freedom of choice.

"I'm in Montreal right now," said Bernier in a video posted to Twitter during the protest. "It's very cold, but you know, that won't stop us."

"We are here today because we know enough is enough, and we want our rights and freedoms back," he said.

"Look at here, look a Paris, and all over the globe. People are tired, people are ready to fight for their rights. And we are saying no to these draconian measures, no to more lockdowns, no to vaccine passports and no to the medical segregation that our establishment leaders are imposing on us right now," he said.

Quebec clamping down on unvaccinated

The Legault government announced last week that it would be introducing a vaccine passport for those who wish to purchase liquor and cannabis from the province's suppliers, including SAQ stores and SQDCs.

The province is also reviewing measures that would put a curfew only on the unvaccinated, reports TVA Nouvelles. The Canadian Press reported on Saturday that a member of the Quebec College of Physicians said that more measures needed to be put in place on the unvaccinated.

"The vaccinated population can no longer suffer in silence the constraints of health measures while the unvaccinated occupy one in two acute care beds and the majority of intensive care beds," Dr. Mauril Gaudreault said. "The overload of hospitalizations and offloading deprives thousands and thousands of patients of surgery that is constantly postponed, in some cases further deteriorating their health status."
