For the month of March the focus turns to the American education system as the Biden administration shifts its vaccination priorities to the nation's teachers.

In President Biden's address he announced:

“Over 30 States have already taken the step to prioritize educators for vaccination. And today I'm using the full authority of the federal government. I'm directing every state to do the same. My challenge to all states, territories, and the district of Columbia is this. We want every educator, school staff member, and childcare worker to receive at least one shot by the end of the month of March.”

To make that happen, Biden is using the federal pharmacy program to prioritize vaccination for all K through 12 educators and relevant workers in that field. He adds that it’s possible not every educator will get a first-week appointment, however they’ll definitely be able to sign up for an appointment at a pharmacy close to their convenience.

As America fights to restore its normalcy, schools have been at the forefront of that battle. Just last month the CDC admitted to not having data with regards to teachers getting infected with COVID or dying from the disease, as a result of being on the job in schools. The CDC also backpedaled on when to open schools, changing their minds from science to the “opinions of stakeholders” (teachers unions).

It’s this federal fence sitting on the position that led states like Florida to go their own way, instead. With Governor Ron DeSantis reaffirming that his decision to keep schools open in the state was the right call.
