America might be experiencing an astronomical crisis at the US-Mexico border, but the Biden administration is pushing forward on their unilateral changes to military policy.
By this meaning the Department of Defense has officially reversed the transgender ban policy put in place by the Trump administration.
Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin made the announcement of the policy change on Twitter.
In an accompanying press release, the DoD further explains:
“The revised policies prohibit discrimination on the basis of gender identity or an individual’s identification as transgender, provide a means by which to access into the military in one’s self-identified gender provided all appropriate standards are met, provide a path for those in service for medical treatment, gender transition, and recognition in one’s self-identified gender, and seeks to protect the privacy of all Service members and to treat all Service members with dignity and respect.”
For background it was in April 2019 that former President Trump reversed the previous Obama administration’s policy of allowing transgenders to openly serve and have access to medical services. While Trump didn’t kick out transgendered service members already serving, it put a halt on incoming enlistments.
What we’re seeing today with this news is the final results of Biden’s overturning of Trump’s policies.
In the updated Medical Standards for Appointment, Enlistment, or Induction into the Military Services, it now says (on page 25):
“A history of sex reassignment or genital reconstruction surgery is disqualifying unless all of the following conditions are met, as certified by a licensed medical provider:
(a) A period of 18 months has elapsed since the date of the most recent of any such surgery.
(b) No functional limitations or complications persist, and no additional surgery is required.”
There’s a separate 22-page packet specifically dedicated to “in-service transition for transgender service members.” This is the process in which taxpayer dollars will go to giving sex changes to members of the military.
An example of what this entails, on Page 7. "When a Service member receives a diagnosis of gender dysphoria from a military medical provider and obtains a medical treatment plan for gender transition, the Service member’s notification to the commander must identify all medically necessary care and treatment that is part of the Service member’s medical treatment plan."
