Abortion advocates are expecting President-elect Joe Biden to reverse all of President Trump's work achieving pro-life victories, NBC News reported.
"We have a ton of work to do to undo the harm over the last four years, but knowing we have champions there who understand what needs to happen in the first 100 days is tremendously exciting," said president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Alexis McGill Johnson.
The Trump administration policies in question include blocking federal fund for foreign and national health organizations that provide abortions, as well as allow employers freedom to deny providing free contraception.
Pro-lifers are concerned about the potential for hard hitting abortion legislation under Biden. "It's certainly disheartening, but we aren't going to give up, and we will do whatever we can to stop abortion from being promoted," said president of the National Right to Life Committee Carol Tobias.
Biden is expected to restore the contraceptive coverage mandate from the Affordable Care Act, which requires insurers to provide contraception with no co-payments.
President Trump lifted the mandate, and allowed insurers to object to contraception provision for moral or religious reasons.
Biden is expected to restore the Obama-era version of the mandate which only exempts houses of worship from being forced to provide contraception to employees. Moral objectors would then be subject to providing free contraception to their employees under the switch.
Another anticipated pro-abortion policy restoration is the The Title X healthcare program, which, in 2019, the Trump administration blocked from from referring members to abortion providers.
Biden may remove the block and continue to allow Title X program members to seek abortion procedures with their healthcare assistance.
Furthermore, Biden is also expected to overturn the Trump-era expanded version of the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits federal funds going to abortion providers.
"The Hyde Amendment is an attack on low-income families and an attempt to take away the promise of Roe v. Wade. For many, abortion care has been a right only in name and not in practice, because if you can't actually afford it, the legal right is moot," said Kelsey Ryland, co-director of the All* Above All abortion coverage campaign.
Biden, a Roman Catholic, is facing pressure from many of his far left constituents to enact definitive pro-abortion legislation including those listed above and more.
