President Joe Biden took the opportunity to visit school children in Yorktown, Virginia on Monday, and video emerged of the president masked touring a classroom where children were masked.

As Biden pushed for the reopening of schools for in-person learning, he did little to advance his cause as he toured a classroom where children sat behind partitions, the room looking more like a dystopian nightmare than a place of learning.

His muffled voice could be heard to joke that the elementary schoolers were actually high school ninth graders, and he spoke to the teacher about her focus in the classroom.

"This is impressive," he said, to chuckles from the socially distanced, plastic partitioned, masked students.

First Lady Jill Biden was on hand as well, which was lucky because she helped one student when their plastic partition collapsed as the president walked past.

"That's okay," the teacher said. Biden said it was "probably my fault," as the First Lady jumped in to try to fix the gaffe.

The visit to Yorktown was part of his "Getting America Back on Track Tour to visit schools and amplify efforts to return to in-person learning," reported local news.

Over the weekend, Biden administration advisor Anita Dunn said that schools should "probably" be back open fully by September, so long as everyone gets vaccinated.

Reopening plans have been in flux since the administration took office. While the president initially promised to have schools full reopened for in-person learning five days per week, school districts in in Democrat strongholds across the Us have been slow to respond.

Over the weekend, it was revealed that teachers' unions had put pressure on the CDC to issue guidance that was in line with their fears of contagion despite CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky's comments that three-feet, as opposed to six-feet, of distancing was enough, and that teachers didn't need to be vaccinated for schools to reopen.

Children have not been found to be substantial vectors of COVID-19, and the CDC has said that when there have been outbreaks at schools, they are not linked to in-school transmission but community spread.

President and First Lady Biden have both been fully vaccinated.

In the absence of consistent or complete guidanve from the CDC as to measures schools can take to reopen safely, schools have each constructed their own mitigation plans. Schools have partitions, masking, social distancing, random testing, temperature taking, and quarantine plans that take effect when a school has a certain number of cases recorded.
