Biden praises Gov. Northam after demanding his resignation in 2019

Today, the president of the United States demonstrated that participating in cancel culture was all meaningless political theater.

This is a story in the same vein as how Vice President Kamala Harris roasted President Joe Biden on the debate stage in June 2019—her whole "that little girl was me" performance when talking about Biden's history on the issue of busing and segregation in public schools.

It was something that both Joe and Jill Biden had choice words in reaction for. How dare Kamala Harris indirectly imply Joe Biden is an old school racist on a nationally broadcasted stage?

It turns out Joe Biden is now guilty of this same thing.

According to the New York Post, Biden is now happy to publicly applaud Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam. But many are recalling the previous rhetoric either he or the people of his office espoused.

"There is no place for racism in America. Governor Northam has lost all moral authority and should resign immediately, Justin Fairfax is the leader Virginia needs now," Biden had tweeted on Feb. 2, 2019.

For those who might've forgotten, in February 2019, Northam admitted to appearing in a 1984 school yearbook photo that many called "racist and offensive."

(The blackface controversy is all too familiar for the people of Canada.)

Despite his initial public confession, within a matter of days Northam reversed course. He changed his mind, said it might've not been him, and ordered a many months-long investigation into the matter. An effort that turned up with no definitive results, other than the public forgetting about the debacle entirely.

Fast forward to today, and Biden's remarks in Alexandria, Virginia, alongside Northam completely ignored the whole racist yearbook photo episode. It was a public event held at a rocking climbing center, a ceremony marking the state's lifting of social distancing and building capacity restrictions.

"Governor Northam, I want to thank you for your welcome to the Commonwealth. And I want to thank you for all you’re doing to help win the fight against COVID. You’re one of the best governors in the country at taking this on. And you did it from the beginning," Biden said Friday at the Sportrock Climbing Center.

It was just yesterday that Biden held up a list of GOP politicians he thought were hypocrites. Let today's episode serve as a reminder it takes one to know one.
