President Joe Biden is anticipated to announce executive orders on gun control on Thursday. Biden had said that he was not opposed to enacting gun control directly from the Oval Office if the legislature did not act as he wished.

Politico reports that according to "people familiar with the plan," Biden intends to force those who purchase so-called "ghost guns," or those made from spare parts as opposed to those that are manufactured, to undergo background checks.

Speculation abounds as to what else the President may undertake with the stroke of his pen, but some say that there could be restrictions placed on assault weapons, as well as "prohibitions on firearm purchases for those convicted of domestic violence against their partners; and federal guidance on home storage safety measures."

Democrats are overwhelmingly in favor of the President taking unilateral action, while Republicans are more interested in upholding the 2nd amendment of the US Constitution.

This as gun sales have skyrocketed in the US, and crime in the nation, including violent gun crime, is at a record high. A 20-25 percent increase was recorded in every city that reported quarterly data.

Biden is also expected to announce his nominee to head the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms on Thursday. This person would play a key role in enacting and enforcing the administration's gun control measures.

Last week, over 100 Democrats demanded via letter that Biden bypass the legislature and take executive action on "concealable assault-style firearms that fire rifle rounds."

In anticipation of these executive actions, Arizona's Republican Governor Doug Ducey HB 2111 which would prevent local governments or the state government from enforcing Biden's executive gun control actions.
