On their first day in office, the Biden administration has already changed the contact form on the White House website to reflect their ideology that biological sex is a mutable condition and that a person's feelings about their biological sex are facts.
The White House contact form now asks which pronouns you'd like to use.
This change aligns with one of the 17 executive actions President Biden signed Jan. 20 after his inauguration, many of which undo the things the Trump administration accomplished.
Number 15 on the list reads: "Strengthen workplace discrimination protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity."
It's not entirely clear what this means, as federal law already protects individuals on the basis of sexual orientation and "gender identity," which means the condition of being gender-nonconforming. The Supreme Court ruled in a case in 2020, Bostock v. Clayton County, that those protections are ensured in the workplace as well.
Allies to progressive leftism, like the Human Rights Campaign, applaud Biden's orders. "President Biden Issues Most Substantive, Wide-Ranging, LGBTQ Executive Order In U.S. History," Wednesday's press release headline read. A portion of their statement celebrated the new administration's actions.
It read: "Biden's executive order is the most substantive, wide-ranging executive order concerning sexual orientation and gender identity ever issued by a United States president. Today, millions of Americans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that their President and their government believe discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity is not only intolerable but illegal.
"By fully implementing the Supreme Court's historic ruling in Bostock, the federal government will enforce federal law to protect LGBTQ people from discrimination in employment, health care, housing, and education, and other key areas of life. While detailed implementation across the federal government will take time, this Executive Order will begin to immediately change the lives of the millions of LGBTQ people seeking to be treated equally under the law."
Likewise, in a statement, Mara Keisling, executive director of the National Center for Transgender Equality also applauded the decision. "On his very first day in office, President Biden is stating clearly that there is no place for discrimination in the federal government. Bostock v. Clayton County was a major victory for LGBTQ Americans. Today's executive order moves us another step toward a day when transgender people can openly live as who they are without being targeted for discrimination."
This pronoun rollout comes along with the formation of a new White House Gender Policy Council. The stated aim of this policy is "to guide and coordinate policy that impacts women and girls, across a wide range of issues such as economic security, health care, racial justice, gender-based violence, and foreign policy..."
It will be led by Jennifer Klein of TIME'S UP, and Julissas Reynoso, who is the incoming Assistant to the President and Chief of Staff to First Lady Jill Biden.
While on the campaign trail, Biden pledged to "advance LGBTQ+ Equality in America and around the world." It seems these changes, from the contact form at the White House, to executive orders his first day in office, reflect these goals.
