Legendary comedian and talk show host Bill Maher commented on the televised Oscars slap during his Friday night show, saying that Jada Pinkett Smith should "thank God" that alopecia is the worst medical problem she's dealing with.
"If you are so lucky in life as to have that be your medical problem, just say, 'Thank God,'" quipped Maher on his show. Maher then went on to state Friday evening that the condition of alopecia is "not life threatening," and that "it's part of — for most people, 80 percent of men, 50 percent of women — it's part of aging."
"Aging is, trust me, I know, it's the degradation of the flesh. It happens to all of us," the 66-year old Maher, whose career has spanned decades, indicated.
"And, you know, just put on a f*cking wig like everybody else at the Oscars if it bothers you so much," Maher continued while talking with his guests: former New York City mayoral candidate Andrew Yang and lawyer Laura Coates.
Yang responded, expressing agreement with Maher: "I do feel like it's part of the job of a world famous celebrity attending an award show to absorb mild insults directed at you and yours." He added, "I ran for office and people said things around me I didn't like and I didn't get up and smack anyone."
During the jaw-dropping moment at the Oscars, actor Will Smith smacked comedian Chris Rock over a G.I. Jane joke. Following backlash, Smith announced that he is resigning from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences.
