On Friday’s episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, the show’s namesake questioned why 2024 presidential candidate Donald Trump voters would vote for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, saying "why would we want a tribute band when the actual band is still playing?"
"First of all, everything I hear about DeSantis is that he's dull. He doesn't have any charisma," said Maher.
Maher continued on to say that he believes liberals "make a real effort not to understand the Trump voter. And, you know, there's like, 'oh, DeSantis is gonna be great because he's — it's Trumpism without Trump.' And I think they're like, why would we want a tribute band when the actual band is still playing?"
While Trump announced his run for president last year shortly after the midterm elections, DeSantis has yet to confirm whether or not he’s running for president.
The Florida Republican has made a number of stops across the country, including Iowa and Nevada. Iowa is notably the first state to hold a caucus for the GOP presidential nomination, with Nevada also being a caucus state.
According to Fox News, DeSantis is set to visit New Hampshire next month for the Amos Tuck Dinner in Manchester. NH state being the first one to hold a primary.
