New Brunswick's Progressive Conservative Party has won a majority in the Canadian province's election after managing a minority government for the last 21 months. Blaine Higgs will return as Premier.

Premier Higgs believed he needed a solid stable government for four more years, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. He called for the snap election four weeks ago during this difficult time for his province and the country as a whole.

Liberal Leader Kevin Vickers said Higgs was calling an election that was unneeded and that was unwanted during this time. Vickers has lost his own election in Miramichi after dropping his position as Ambassador to Ireland in March last year to run for the NB Liberal Party leadership. He has announced he will not be returning as the leader of the Liberal Party in New Brunswick.

The results are now as follows : 27 seats for the PC's, 17 for the Liberals, 3 for the Greens and 2 for the Peoples Alliance.

This marks the first time a government in New Brunswick has won two terms in a row since 2003, when Bernard Lord led the PC's to victory.
