BLM protester resisting arrest at Pittsburgh protest was previously arrested over racist attack on restaurant

One of the women resisting arrest at the Pittsburgh-area Black Lives Matter protest Saturday was previously arrested over a racist BLM attack on a restaurant in 2020.

Victoyia Lynn Townes was seen ignoring police orders and acting belligerently against law enforcement at the weekend anti-police demonstration in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, where the viral "punch" photo was taken of a BLM protester being punched by a black cop after she turned violent and laid hands on the officer.

The Post Millennial's editor-at-large Andy Ngo reported that on Sept. 5, 2020, Townes was part of a group that harassed the female owner of Pino's Contemporary Italian Restaurant & Wine Bar and her husband as well as a number of patrons "using racial slurs and intimidation," per redacted police records.

"They took over the street and sidewalks and terrorized the neighborhood and her patrons," the police reported. The reporting detective observed video that confirmed that Townes' co-offenders used microphones to "alarm and disrupt" Pino's patrons as well as "disparage [the owner] and her husband's character."

The family-owned Italian restaurant is located in Pittsburgh's historic East End neighborhood of Point Breeze and run by the husband-and-wife duo.

It wasn't the first time members of the group allegedly attempted to shut down a lawfully-operated restaurant. At the Point Brugge Cafe, a European-style bistro with Belgian-inspired dishes, on Aug. 21, 2020, one of Townes' associates allegedly lashed out at people and screamed, "All you f*cking white b*tches need to die!" Eyewitnesses observed the aggressor appearing on the premises "in a fit of rage" and "unleash[ing] racist comments" at customers dining at the business.

Among other taunts and cursing, the same woman allegedly yelled through a megaphone at all nearby patrons, "You white people gonna die!"

Townes was charged with making terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another, riot-intent to commit a felony, and assault, among other offenses. Bail was set at $10,000 and posted on Oct. 13, 2020, court documents read.

According to Court of Common Pleas records filed in Allegheny County, Townes has a trial date before Judge Edward J. Borkowski scheduled for April 20.

Saturday's hostile protest was held to honor the police-involved death of Jim Rogers, who died after police officers used a stun gun on the 54-year-old black man in connection with an alleged bicycle theft last fall, according to WTAE.

In video taken of the altercation involving Townes, she was seen yelling at the black officer as he exited his patrol car, requesting the demonstrators not block the roadways after they've remained in the streets despite police instructions.

"It is our right," Townes shouted in response. The group began chanting, "No justice, no peace, f*ck these racist a** police," at the officer, who is black.

Townes was filmed getting in the face of an officer. The police approached to take Townes into custody, when Vuestro Merced, the BLM protester who was punched in the face by the black cop, then intervened and tried to de-arrest Townes.

Merced was arrested while on the ground as a muzzled police canine advanced, while Townes was placed in handcuffs and escorted away from the scene.

Both were released from custody. In one Twitter post Saturday, a user, raising CashApp funds for the pair, said they're out and "safe with community."

Abolitionist Law Center also posted Townes and Merced's screen names as well.
