A BLM leader from Charleston, SC has been sentenced to 18 months for setting fire to a police car and assaulting police officers.

According to ABC News 4, Judge Bentley Price sentenced Abraham Jenkins to eighteen months of state prison for charges of "third-degree arson, second-degree assault and battery, and malicious property damage."

"Jenkins also took a burning t-shirt and threw it through a broken back window of a Charleston Police cruiser, causing damage to the cruiser," another local outlet claims.

This stemming from the actions taken by Jenkins in May 2020 after mass unrest reacting to the death of George Floyd.

Jenkins was previously sentenced to 18 months in federal prison over charges stemming from the Charleston riots in May 2020. In that instance he faced charges of arson and civil disorder. Local reporting from the time shows evidence of Jenkins standing on a police vehicle and damaging the car, along assaulting law enforcement with a fire extinguisher.

"While the Charleston Police Department will always support our citizen’s right to peaceful protest, we will never condone violent or destructive acts that endanger our citizens or damage property," said Charleston Police Chief Luther Reynolds back at the July 2021 sentencing.

Jenkins was permitted to face legal ramifications from both the state and at a federal level because of the "separate sovereigns" doctrine upheld by SCOTUS in Gamble vs the United States in 2019.
