Protesters in Kenosha torched numerous black-owned businesses when they rampaged over the white-on-black police shooting of Jacob Blake.
During the second night of civil unrest, "arsonists set buildings ablaze and torched much of the Black business district," Reuters reported.
Fires destroyed a majority of the "Black business district," Porche Bennett, a 31-year-old protestor of Kenosha, told Reuters, alleging that the instigators she witnessed were white. However, social media revealed both both black and white agitators.
“It’s people from out of town doing this. We’ve been shopping there since we were kids and they set it on fire,” Bennett stated.
Local police, supported by the National Guard, reportedly fired tear gas, rubber bullets, and smoke bombs overnight to disperse the crowd of several hundred.
Kenosha County Board of Supervisors member Zach Rodriguez told Reuters that the board would hold an emergency meeting on Tuesday to seeking federal help from United States Marshals Service.
“Essentially, our city was burned to the ground, building by building,” Rodriguez stated. “Enough is enough.”
Meanwhile, armed residents took it upon themselves to defend their communities.
A local business owner urged rioters to stop looting neighborhood stores. Instead, protestors should take up their grievances with the police, he advised.
On Monday evening, the outspoken observer told the mob to cease the destruction, Newsweek reported.
"What you guys don't understand is that people have their lives in these businesses," the man stated from inside his white pickup truck.
"So just because you guys are too scared to go deal with the cops you're just going to burn down our whole town?" the resident asked the group standing outside Kenosha's probation office, which is part of the state Department of Corrections.
"Then you get maced and you all take off? Take your issues up with them," the man argued, pointing toward nearby law enforcement officers. "The furniture store is the police? A car dealership is the police?"
Several members of the mob threatened the truck's driver. "So what we pay for that? So do black people. Go away," some attempted to justify their actions.
"Do you know how many people have been wrongfully accused in there? I didn't say s**t about the furniture store, I'm talking about the P.O. office. This is a state-owned building," another replied.
The protesters then told the man to leave. "You need to go. I suggest you go because they ain't playing right now," they instructed. "They are going to f**k your s**t up."
In a separate video recorded by The Daily Caller's Shelby Talcott, the same self-described business owner dared onlookers to destroy his establishment. "Keep destroying s**t, we're going to run all y'all motherf***ers down," the man retorted.
