Following an announcement from DuckDuckGo founder and CEO Gabriel Weinberg that the search engine would be down-ranking website associated with "Russian disinformation," former users of the platform announced that they would be abandoning it in favor of Brave.
Luke Mulks, Vice President of business operations for Brave, released a tweet on Thursday welcoming new people to use not just their browser, but their private search engine as well.
Reminder, friends. @Brave is more than just a browser.

We also have neutral, Private @Brave Search.
User-first means getting out of your way.

Twitter users condemned DuckDuckGo’s decision to down-rank sites, announcing that they would be taking their searches elsewhere.
After @DuckDuckGo's recent decision to filter disinformation for me, I decided to switch to @brave's search engine.

I just don't vibe with information filters, even when they're well-intended.
I'm loving the crypto-friendliness already. Not a sponsor. pic.twitter.com/6MQHXMmJlC
Btw, bye @DuckDuckGo If you are stacking results, you are no longer impartial. Gonna give @brave a try.

. @DuckDuckGo just lost me as a customer. I don't need my information manipulated thank you. I am an adult that can judge what is "misinformation" on my own.
— Lewis Ungit (@iamungit) March 10, 2022
Changing my default search right now. Suggestions? For now I am changing it to @brave .
Great. As @Timcast tweeted: "DuckDuckGo destroys their only value proposition with a single tweet," regarding @yegg's tweet.

BTW how can search engine leaders know what's "misinformation"? Because the US gov says so?
Dumped @DuckDuckGo for @brave

I recommend y’all do the same!
After using @DuckDuckGo on my phone for the last 6 years, it's gone. I have enough 'woke' shit in my life as it is, so GOOD LUCK catering to these 'woke, low IQ, fringes of our society'. It's the road to bankruptcy. Meanwhile thanks @brave for being there!https://t.co/9104cT3ndP

On Thursday, Weinberg wrote on Twitter that he was "sickened" by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine "and the gigantic humanitarian crisis it continues to create."
Like so many others I am sickened by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the gigantic humanitarian crisis it continues to create. #StandWithUkraine?

At DuckDuckGo, we've been rolling out search updates that down-rank sites associated with Russian disinformation.
"At DuckDuckGo, we’re been rolling out search updates that down-rank sites associated with Russian disinformation," Weinberg added.
He wrote that in addition to down-ranking, the company frequently places "news modules and information boxes at the top of DuckDuckGo search results (where they are seen and clicked the most) to highlight quality information for rapidly unfolding topics."
DuckDuckGo's mission is to make simple privacy protection accessible to all. Privacy is a human right and transcends politics, which is why about 100 million people around the world use DuckDuckGo. (We don't have an exact count since we don't track people.)
