On Friday, the House of Representatives passed a controversial gun safety bill which the Senate approved yesterday and now is due to land on President Biden's desk.

The Washington Post reports that the package, which the President is expected to sign, is the "biggest breakthrough in gun violence legislation in 30 years."

"On this vote the yays are 234" House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said and "the nays are 193."

On June 22, the Senate voted in favor of the "Bipartisan Safer Communities Act" in a filibuster 65-33 majority with 15 Republicans, including Mitch McConnell, joining Democrats in support of the measure.

The $13 billion legislation is claimed to toughen background checks for gun buyers under the age of 21, prevent domestic violence offenders from possessing firearms, and enable states to put in place controversial "red flag" laws.

"Red Flag" laws permit people to enlist law enforcement to remove fire arms from lawful gun owners. There are concerns from many conservatives that these could mean a constant violation of due process for gun owners.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
