The UCP government is planning on lifting its COVID restrictions, beginning with the elimination of the vaccine passport. According to CTV, Alberta's premier expects to relax COVID-19 restrictions in February.
“Once we begin to see a sustained reduction in COVID pressure on the hospitals, I am looking forward to being able to make decisions on relaxation on public health measures,” said Kenney.
“I believe that will happen this month, in February… including the elimination of the restriction exemption or the proof of vaccination program. I just ask people to be a little more patient.”
According to City News on Thursday, Provincial Medical Officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw said COVID is now becoming endemic. While there will still be risks for some members of society, the system is unlikely to be overwhelmed.
“There will continue to be impacts on our acute care systems that will rise and fall with seasonality and new variants that may emerge,” she explained. “We cannot prevent all negative outcomes from COVID and we must be ready to respond to new information.”
“But we cannot continue to use restrictions in the long term,” she stated.
