BREAKING: Trudeau government teams up with Amazon to distribute masks to provinces

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addressed media Friday from Rideau Cottage in Ottawa, Ontario.

Right off the bat, Trudeau sharing information about the distribution of critical equipment across the provinces and territories. Trudeau announced that Amazon Canada will be distributing the products across the country.

Trudeau said the government will also provide $100 million to meet the needs of food banks and vulnerable communities, including those living in Indigenous and northern communities.

Trudeau said the food bank funding goes at a time of need for the services, as they face a steep decline in volunteers and donations due to the coronavirus.

Trudeau said his government will also supplement the GST credit. Previously, Trudeau announced that this credit would take place in May, giving qualifying adults 300 dollars, with 350 for each child. That benefit will instead come in April.

In regards to the White House's move to stop medical equipment producer 3M from sending masks to Canada, Trudeau said "3M has indicated that it understands how important it is to continue with delivering on orders to places like Canada because there is much trade that goes back and forth in essential services, and it could end up hurting Americans as much as it hurts everybody else."

Trudeau gave a similar answer when asked if he was considering retaliatory measures if the U.S. restricted medical masks from entering Canada.
