Antifa rioters once again wreaked havoc in Portland on Monday night, this time focusing on the Portland Police Union. During the night, the rioters managed to topple a statue of newspaper editor Harvey Scott in Mt. Tabor park, breaking and stealing its arm.

Scott is best remembered as the long-time editorialist of The Oregonian. He was regarded by his contemporaries as instrumental in carrying Oregon state firmly into the political camp of the Republican Party.

His editorials strongly supported the Union and the newly emerging Republican Party during the Civil War. As a historian, Scott also edited the first history of Portland published in 1890 and compiled the six-volume History of the Oregon Country with his son who published Scott's work posthumously.

The 1933 historical statue is the 7th memorial in Portland to be toppled or severely damaged. This comes after the dismantling of the presidential Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln sculptures on the "Indigenous Day of Rage" last weekend.
