BREAKING: Biden announces 100 million shots—calls Kamala 'President Harris'

President Joe Biden spoke on Thursday as to the state of vaccinations in the US, as the US reaches the milestone of having administered 100 million vaccine doses given under Biden's administration. The number of 100 million does total was reached on Monday.

President Biden also referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as "President Harris," and did not correct himself.

Biden said that he was ahead of schedule on his initial plan to get 100 million doses out within his first 100 days. Media, he said, was not on his side, but his administration, with a "whole government approach," got it done, he said.

Biden spoke in favor of his plan to put the US on a "war footing," and that it's to 58 days into his tenure that he met this goal.

He said that this update was per his promise to give an update after every 50 million doses given as to the status of the vaccination roll out in the US. Biden said his plan of "putting checks in pockets and shots in people's arms" is well underway.

"Eight weeks ago, only eight percent of seniors… had received a vaccination. Today, 65 percent of people 65 or older have received at least one shot, and 36 percent are fully vaccinated, and that's key, because this is the population that represented 80 percent… of the deaths in America."

He said that the US has gone from 1 million shots per day to 2.5 million shots a day, "outpacing the rest of the world significantly."

Biden touted the efforts of the US to research, create, and manufacture vaccines, without mentioning Operation Warp Speed, the Trump administration's massive effort to get the vaccines made.

"Every American will have the chance to be vaccinated by the end of May," Biden said, discussing the accessibility plans that are now in place, partnerships with vaccinations centers, mobile clinics, and pharmacies. FEMA, HHS, and military personnel have been deployed to facilitate and administer vaccines.

"We're also supplying vaccines to community health centers to reach those who have been the hardest hit and suffered the most, especially black, Latino and Native American, and rural communities. This is really important because we believe that speed and efficiency must be matched with fairness and equity."

He then referred to "President Harris," noting that they toured a facility in Arizona together. Kamala Harris is the Vice President.

Biden said that "we have much more to do," and that the American Rescue Plan will help. It's not just cash payments, he said, but a whole host of things, like money to get schools open.

He said the vaccines give teachers the confidence to go back to school.

"I need all Americans to do you part, wash your hands, stay socially distanced, keep masking up according to the CDC, and get vaccinated when it's your turn, now is not the time to let down your guard."

Biden repeated his claim that things will probably get worse. "I need you to get vaccinated when it's your turn, when you're able to do that."

"If we stick to the science," he said, we can declare our independence from the virus on independence day, and said again that the government's main job is to protect Americans.

"We've got to reach the point where we have herd immunity, where the cast majority of the American people have been vaccinated before we stop wearing these," he said, referring to the mask.

He said we don't want what happened in Europe to happen here, and to keep wearing the mask. Again, he would absolutely not take any questions from journalists who called out to him, simply walking away.
