Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates posted on to his social media that he and Melinda Gates will be divorcing.

"After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage. Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and build a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives. We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue to work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives. We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life," reads a statement signed by Melinda and Bill Gates.

The couple are splitting up after 27 years of marriage.

The couple, who have frequently been among the richest couples on earth for decades now, is estimated to be worth well over $100 billion dollars.

Gates, who founded Microsoft with Paul Allen in 1975, announced that he was leaving his company in March of 2020.

Since June 27, 2008, Gates has transitioned out of a day-to-day role at the company to spend more time on his work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He served as Microsoft's chairman of the board until February 4, 2014."
