York Regional Police are investigating a case of vandalism after they were called out to Pierre Elliot Trudeau Park in Vaughan, Ontario. They found that a statue of the former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau had been desecrated by a vandal(s) who painted the face of Trudeau black.
“At 12:10 p.m. (Thursday) we got a report of the statue had been defaced, paint was put on the face of the statue,” said Sgt. Andy Pattenden.
Pierre Elliot Trudeau Park is in the are of Clark Road. and New Westminster Drive.

York Regional Police have yet to confirm if the act was directly tied to the ongoing protests in the U.S. and elsewhere at this time although they are investigating this incident as a hate crime. York Regional Police are looking for any witnesses or people who may have information on the case.
