Black Lives Matter protestors took to downtown Toronto streets Saturday night to express their opposition to Canada's prison system.
They blocked the intersection of Dundas and Spadina, chanting "free them all" and likening the prison system to "modern day slavery."
The march was organized by activist group "Not Another Black Life" and is meant to commemorate Emancipation Day as well as advocate for the end of prisons.
In addition to BLM protestors, Antifa were spotted in the crowd of approximately 500. Tensions were high as protestors unfurled a large sign that read “We Keep Us Safe.” Protestors taunted the police by saying, “Step down before we make you step down."
At one point, Antifa activists spotted TPM's photojournalist Beth Baisch and blocked her footage with umbrellas and filmed her phone.
Baisch was confronted for being a journalist and surrounded.
"About a dozen surrounded me. Then a protestor made an announcement about not wanting to see any media or cameras because they weren’t with them and a bunch started pointing to me and saying 'we have one right here!' When I tried to leave, they blocked me and I had to push my way past," Baisch said.
The protestors staged a "die-in" at the corner of Yonge and Dundas, the busiest intersection in Canada.
This is a breaking story and will be updated.
