UPDATE: After a prolonged standoff, a suspect has just surrendered as of approximately 3pm EST and is in police custody. The suspect is a 49-year-old resident of North Carolina man, and he claims he carried the bomb in his pickup truck.

The US Capitol was evacuated on Thursday at around 10 am, as police are looking into what they are calling an "active bomb threat."

Acting in a manner reminding many of the events of Jan. 6 2021, Capitol police have also closed down many of the streets around the Capitol and surrounding buildings, most of which have also been evacuated.

"In a brief statement, the FBI’s Washington Field Office referred to 'reports of a suspicious vehicle and bomb threat near the Library of Congress,'" according to USA Today.

Washington DC's mayor Muriel Bowser also tweeted on the issue, asking the public to stay away from the Capitol and the surrounding area.

"I have been briefed on the evolving situation near the Library of Congress. The @DCPoliceDept is assisting the U.S. Capitol Police in the response, and will provide an update when there is additional information to share. For now, please avoid the area near the Capitol."

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
