Former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo is reportedly prepping to sue his former employer for breaching his $6 million-per-year contract.
According to an exclusive report by the New York Post, the CNN legal team is "bracing" for a legal battle with Cuomo, who was fired over efforts to help his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, during a sexual misconduct scandal that would lead to his resignation.
Cuomo was initially suspended over information in documents that were released by state Attorney General Letitia James.
The Cuomo team has argued that CNN president Jeff Zucker knew "about the details of Mr. Cuomo's support for his brother" and that "there were no secrets about this, as other individuals besides Mr. Cuomo can attest."
Cuomo is reportedly ready to take on CNN and has lawyers ready, as he will seek to be paid for the remainder of his contract. The source told The Post that CNN is not ready to pay Cuomo "a penny" of what he believes is owed.
"CNN has a standard morality clause in their contract that says if the employee does anything of disrepute, they can be immediately fired," another source said.
In a statement published to his social media on Monday, Cuomo said: "The way my time ended at CNN was hard. Wile I have a thick skin, I also have a family, for whom the pats week has been extraordinarily difficult."
He continues: "So, right now, I have to take a step back and focus on what comes next," with Cuomo announcing that he will no longer continue with his SiriusXM radio show.
