The White House Counsel's Office inspected the residences in Rehoboth Beach and Wilmington, Delaware this week after it was discovered that Biden had kept a collection of Obama-era classified documents at his UPenn office. The White House says it is fully cooperating with the Justice Department.
Biden was asked by Fox News White House Correspondent Peter Doocy about the location of the documents, which were found next to his Corvette in the garage, to which Biden said that his Corvette is in a "locked garage."
It was announced yesterday that aides had found at least one new batch of classified documents separate from his UPenn office.
A source close to the matter said that aides have been searching for any additional classified documents since the first batch of documents were discovered in November, prior to the midterm elections, NBC News reports. The source spoke on condition of anonymity.
CBS News first reported that classified documents were found in an office Biden used during his vice presidency.
A source familiar with the matter told CNN that the documents are US intelligence briefings and memos related to topics including Ukraine, Iran, and the United Kingdom, and were dated between 2013 and 2016.
On Monday, it was announced that US Attorney General Merrick Garland assigned an attorney to review classified documents found at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement in Washington. This relates to about 10 documents from President Biden's vice-presidential office, two sources said.
Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was grilled over the discovery of classified documents at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement.
Jean-Pierre reiterated comments made by Biden on Tuesday in response to questions, saying the president was "surprised" by the discovery.
When documents were known to be at the home of former President Donald Trump, the FBI raided his Mar-a-Lago residence in August, coordinating with the secret service to do so when Trump was not at home, and under the direction of Biden's Department of Justice. It is unclear if Attorney General Merrick Garland is considering a similar course of action here.
