Elon Musk is brining back Periscope. The live streaming app that went dead some years ago made a brief comeback on Twitter Tuesday night just before midnight in a test stream from the resurected app.
In a grainy, low resolution video stream, Musk could be heard talking to his team as he took a look at the camera and giggled at the pixelated feed.
"Whoa, crazy," Musk can be heard to say as the test begins.
"Wait, you all can see me?" He asks. The team laughs. Musk laughed as the hearts began to float up the screen.
"Okay, it's pretty low res. We definitely need to improve resolution," he laughed.
"That's right," a team member said, "that's why we wanted to take it out because we haven't fixed it in 8 years."
"I mean, it's amazing this works," Musk said.
"Yeah," the team member says, "that's Periscope from 2015."
"Hello," Musk says into the stream. "This is 2015 Periscope code."
And it's still running.
"Yeah, it seems like we just need to improve it a little bit." And he wanted the hearts to be turned off.
The team member explains how hearts are generated.
"8 bit Elon," Musk said.
They joked that they could say "Periscope is back" and launch it as is.
Within 20 minutes, the video had over 800,000 views.
"Turn off the hearts!" He said, and anyone who remembers Periscope will feel his pain.
They found that 120,000 people were watching in real time, and could see that the video was being bookmarked.
"We're just testing the live video feature to see if it works and so that we can modify it accordingly," among the changes will be "no more non stop hearts."
Then Periscope crashed.
