Premier Doug Ford provided updates regarding his plans to vastly expand testing across Ontario, after calling the province's current rate inexcusable.
Ford announced that a plan has been implemented to test 8,000 Ontarians a day by April 15, and that 14,000 tests per day would be conducted every day by April 29.
Ford said that those in long term care homes, retirement homes, first responders including police, paramedics, and firefighters, hospital workers, remote and Indigenous communities, and homeless shelters.
Ford emphasized that his plan was to ensure everyone in Ontario who needs a test is able to get one.
Health Minister Elliot said that regulations of the homeless would be increased to ensure that those in shelters get care that they need to reduce the spread.
"We're looking at other places for them to be, including hotels, motels, and other places around the province. This is part of the priority group that we want to extend testing," said Minister Elliott.
Ford also clarified that people will only be tested if they have symptoms, and those that need to be tested will be tested. The minister of health then followed up, saying that the decision is ultimately up to the physician conducting the test, "even with the expanded capacity."
