Premier Doug Ford announced that the province will open Ontario's "first newly built hospital in Ontario in over thirty years."
The Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital will open on February 7 to treat COVID-19 patients, opening up an additional 185 care beds with 35 of them for critical care.
"With many of our hospital ICUs approaching full capacity or beyond, this new hospital is relief. It's added capacity for all those heroes who are stretched to the limit right now," said Ford.
"This hospital will take in critical care patients from surrounding hospitals to help ease capacity pressures around COVID-19," said Ford.
Ford also announced an investment of $125 million for new beds in Toronto, Windsor, Durham, Kingston, and Ottawa, in addition to the 3,100 beds added in the initial COVID response.
