BREAKING: Ford announces strict lockdown measures in Peel and Toronto regions, non-essential businesses to close

“Further action is required to avoid the worst-case scenario,” said Ford. “I know this is difficult news today. This is not where we want to be, but I have faith that Ontario will weather this storm together.”

Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced new lockdown measures across the province on Friday, including full lockdowns in the Toronto and Peel health regions, effective Monday.

Ford announced that no restaurant patios can remain open, that gyms will be closed, and that only professional sport teams can practice indoors.

Retail stores will only be able to provide curb side pickup, with grocery stores and LCBO stores being restricted to 50 percent capacity only.

Ford also announced that no indoor guests will be allowed into one's home in the Peel and Toronto regions, besides those who live in your house with you.

“Further action is required to avoid the worst-case scenario,” said Ford. “I know this is difficult news today. This is not where we want to be, but I have faith that Ontario will weather this storm together.”

Ford said the steps were part of protecting Ontarians' health, announcing that his government will be doubling supports for businesses impacted from $300 million to $600 million.

Childcare centres, pharmacies, doctors offices, dentist offices, and schools will remain open in zones that have moved into lockdowns.

Ford urged against panic buying, saying that Ontarians did not need to buy for more than "a week or two ahead."
