Hamas has fired rockets at the Israeli city of Tel Aviv, leaving civilians running for bomb shelters. Rockets have been fired in multiple, recurring waves. Hamas has taken responsibility for bombarding Tel Aviv and central Israel with 130 rockets.
At least three people have been injured, including a five-year-old girl, when rockets struck the city of Holon, south of Tel Aviv, according to The Times of Israel. Alarms went off in Ramat Gan, Herzliya, and Ramat Hasharon, suburbs of the city.
Footage could be seen of bombs dropping in the populated streets of Holon. An injury report has not been released.
Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system was used to shoot down incoming missiles, while the Israel Defense Forces' Home Front Command told Israel's in the area to go to bomb shelters.
Anna Ahronheim of JPost reported that a bus had been hit, as well we buildings in Holon.
A journalist JPost, Lahav Harkov, said that when the sirens blared, she and her husband grabbed their children and ran to the basement where "very loud booms" could be heard overhead.
On Tuesday, it was reported that Hamas threatened Israel over Israel's launch of missiles at terrorist targets in Gaza. Israel targeted launch pads and military infrastructure, as well as anti-tank missiles.
i24 News reports that there were "some 480 rockets launched into Israel's territory," and that "the Iron Dome had intercepted about 200 of the projectiles. Another 150 launches failed, with rockets landing inside Gaza."
A correspondent for Walla news said that he and is family were sheltering in a safe room while explosions continue to bombard the city.
The Hamas attack was in retaliation for Israel's attacks on military targets. It was reported that a residential block in Gaza was hit with Israeli missiles and then collapsed. "The tower houses an office used by the political leadership of Gaza's Islamist rulers, Hamas," Reuters reports. This knocked out electricity in the area.
Hamas and the Islamic Jihad group both said they would retaliate with rockets on Tel Aviv.
