BREAKING: House GOP reject Alvin Bragg's attempt to dodge inquiry into political prosecution of Donald Trump

"You are apparently attempting to upgrade a misdemeanor charge to a felony using an untested legal theory."

On Saturday, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Jim Jordan, James Comer of the Oversight and Accountability Committee and Bryan Steil, chairman of the Committee on House Administration, slapped back at Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, saying that his response to their investigation into his politically motivated efforts to indict former President Donald Trump was simply not good enough.

In a letter obtained by The Post Millennial, the congressmen said that Bragg has not disputed their central allegations that "under political pressure from left-wing activists and former prosecutors" Bragg has been "reportedly planning to use an alleged federal campaign finance violation, previously declined by federal prosecutors, as a vehicle to extend the statute of limitations on an otherwise misdemeanor offense and indict for the first time in history a former President of the United States."

"Moreover, you are apparently attempting to upgrade a misdemeanor charge to a felony using an untested legal theory at the same time when you are simultaneously downgrading felony charges to misdemeanors in a majority of other cases in your jurisdiction," they added.

On March 20, members of the Congressional GOP reached out to Bragg's office to demand information on the possible indictment.

On March 18, Trump announced on Truth Social that he expects to be arrested over a case that alleges he paid hush money to Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election. Bragg's supposed case against Trump claims he falsified business records and that his company accounted for $130,000 to be paid to Michael Cohen, Trump's former lawyer, who acted as a pass-through to send the money to Daniels. Bragg reportedly plans to elevate the charge, a misdemeanor, to the status of a felony, which means the NYC DA has attached an "intent to defraud" motive to the accusation and  may also try to charge Trump with a violation of New York State election law in an attempt top say that the cash was an illegal donation to Trump's campaign.

On Sunday Trump said "There was no crime, period" and throughout the week reports emerged that Bragg was working to get a grand jury to indict Trump.
