The Respect for Marriage Act was passed by the House on Thursday, meaning that it is just one signature away from making same-sex marriage federal law.

The act will now go to the desk of President Joe Biden. The House had previously passed a version of the Act in July, but Senate chose to delay the vote until after the midterms last month. The Senate passed the bill with bipartisan amendments concerned with religious liberty. The amended bill passed 61-36, with 12 Republican senators voting in favor of it.

The House voted on Thursday 258-169 in favor of the Act, which makes it so that the federal government would not recognize polyamorous marriages, and makes it so that non-profit religious organizations "would not be required to provide any services, facilities, or goods for the solemnization or celebration of a marriage," reports The Washington Post.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated.
