After Monday’s revelation that Project Veritas had James O’Keefe removed as CEO and from the board, Twitter users responded by staging a mass exodus from the Project Veritas account.

At the same time, PV founder James O’Keefe began to gain followers by the thousands as conservatives showed their support for the man behind the brand and so much essential investigative journalism over the last few years.

Early in the morning on Tuesday, O’Keefe actually surpassed PV in terms of Twitter followers.

Project Veritas hemorrhaged followers on social media after it was announced company founder James O'Keefe was removed from the organization, which he founded in 2011, after the board placed him on leave earlier in February.

This came after some 16 staffers tried to oust him from the leadership of his own company, claiming, among other things, that he was difficult to work for and once even stole a sandwich, resulting in a dispute within the Board of Directors. Donors pushed back, as did many conservatives who came to O'Keefe's defense.

In a letter in which he addressed his departure to staff, he said "I was asked to be gone until the 20th-- it is now the 20th," wrote O'Keefe. "I asked the board to resign for their conduct-- they did not. So currently, I have no position at PV based on the board's actions. So, I'm announcing to you all that today on President's day — I'm packing up my personal effects from headquarters, and I'm intending to start anew."
