Alberta Premier Jason Kenney has declared that Alberta will go under a state of public emergency as the COVID-19 coronavirus continues to spread across the country.
The announcement was made by Kenney on Tuesday at the Alberta legislature, as the province continues to deal with a growing number of coronavirus cases.
"This is a serious moment in our history and COVID-19 will test us," said Kenney of the pandemic.
"We will do whatever it takes to slow the spread of this virus."
When asked what enforcement tools the province had, Kenney said that local health officials would be in charge of ensuring restaurants and bars stayed close during this time.
Sit down restaurants will continue to operate on "a limited basis."

Kenney says that, after speaking with Loblaws and Walmart, supply chains and food security were not in danger of falling, and that there was "no logical reason" for people to buy "weeks and weeks, or months of supplies."
Earlier Tuesday, Ontario's Doug Ford-led government also declared a state of emergency.
