Following the disastrous results of defunding the police department, which have led to a massive surge in crime, some cities are now rethinking their efforts.
"The Metro Board of Directors on Thursday approved a $36-million increase to Metro’s five-year law enforcement contract with the Los Angeles Police Department, Long Beach Police Department and the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department to cover additional costs through Dec. 31 of this year," reports the The Source-Metro.
Along with more funding for police, the board approved two other motions focused on improving public safety, and connecting those without homes to the proper shelters and social services.
The increase comes as a surprise to many, since Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti made it clear last year that the city would not expand its police budget, following calls to "defund the police".
