A military aircraft crashed Monday into the backyard of a home near the Nellis Air Force Base in southern Nevada.

A military aircraft crashed Monday into the backyard of a home near the Nellis Air Force Base in southern Nevada.

The plane went down near Carey Avenue and Christy Lane in the residential neighborhood. Thick black smoke could be seen for miles. KLAS-TV in Las Vegas has shown what the downed military plan's aftermath looks like nearby.

"We are aware of an incident involving an aircraft associated with Nellis Air Force Base," the military installation wrote on social media. The base's Twitter account reported that the contractor-operated aircraft took off from Nellis Air Force Base and crashed around 2:30 p.m. Monday outside the southern edge of the base."

Multiple federal and local first responders are on the scene, the account added. while the incident remains under investigation by authorities. There is no word about injuries aboard the aircraft or on the ground, the Las Vegan Sun reported.
