Adamson BBQ owner Adam Skelly has been handed nine charges after defying government-imposed lockdown orders requiring him to close his business on Wednesday.

Skelly gained media attention across Canada after he opened his restaurant in defiance of pandemic-related lockdowns in the Toronto region. Skelly criticized the lockdowns, suggesting that they were destroying small businesses. He also noted how much support he had gotten from local Torontonians for defying the orders.

One Toronto City Councillor Mark Grimes called for Skelly to face the maximum fines allowed by the law.

Premier Doug Ford also called upon Skelly to close his business on Wednesday. Speaking at a press conference in reference to Skelly, Ford said "you're putting people's lives in jeopardy. I always try to be nice the first time, but this guy is just totally ignoring public health officials."

"I'm not gonna bend, I'm not gonna start opening up all the businesses. That'd be the most foolish, irresponsible decision anyone has ever made," Ford declared.

Four of the charges laid were from Tuesday while the remaining five are from Wednesday. It is not clear what the exact charges are as of yet.

This is a developing story.
